Sorry about the long break in between postings. Just trying to do a couple of quick hits.

1. My heart goes out to the people of New Orleans and all of the victims of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. It’s going to take a lot of elbow grease to get that city back up and running, but I know it will be done. New Orleans will rise again. Believe that. Also keep your fingers crossed for the people who has to deal with Hurricane William and the potential Hurricane Alpha.

2. To the people who vote for President Dubya: Do you get it NOW? Between the FEMA screwups, this stupid war in Iraq, Tom Delay’s mess, and this cronie as a Supreme Court nominee, do you now see that Dubya is a fuckup? Or are you so blind that you will drink the Kool-Aid and continue to follow this clown?

3. There’s drama here in Georgia as well. People are arguing about the state voter ID law. On one hand, some critics have a point. The law eliminates Social Security cards as a form of identificaiton. On the other hand, how in the hell can you get by in America today without a valid government ID? How can you? You can’t even get into a freaking homeless shelter without valid ID in Atlanta.

4. Great album: The official verision of Fiona Apple’s Extraordinary Machine is out. Needless to say, I love it.

5. The books I’m peeping? Chelsea Handler’s My Horizontal Life, a funny book about a young woman’s one night stands. She's funny as hell. I’m working on James Frey’s A Million Little Pieces, in spite of the fact that Oprah recommended it. I love Oprah, but her taste in books doesn’t mesh with mine.

6. If you live in the Atlanta area, go see Paris Luna when she plays your neighborhood watering hole. She's a great musician and a cool person. In the brief moments that I've talked to her, you can see the love of music...and of people.
